- very good product but high priced
This is a great toothbrush. But it is a toothbrush..I'm just not sure it's worth a hundred dollars. I've had the little cheapie electric toothbrushes and I wouldn't say this is 20 times better. One thing for sure - your teeth really feel clean when you're done. The timer is great in making you take the time to do it right. Not sure about the extra 'whitening' phase. As far as I can tell, it's just extra time, not a different mode altogether. So if you're looking to save money, maybe the basic model would be your best option....more info
- Squeaky Clean
I received this tooth brush as a replacement. The Customer Service at Sonicare was very efficient and professional. I am very happy with R710 HealthyWhite Power Toothbrush as it cleans my teeth like my dental hygienist without the prohibitive cost. It even reaches and cleans the hard to reach area like my wisdom teeth all the way in the back. There is no going back to old toothbrush as I am so impressed with this toothbrush....more info
- An upgrade from older model - worth it if it dies on you
I've owned two generations of Sonicares previous to this one - a first generation basic model way back, and an elite 5500 (?) that got the more natural slanted shaft and got rid of awkward plastic tab behind the brush of the 1st gen. Neither one died on me, both lasted years.
From the E-series to the R-series (710), the major upgrades seem to be:
-Cheaper, better, simpler and smaller replacement brushes. No longer complicated screw-on affairs, the brushes just get pushed on a vibrating bolt, for lack of a better term. There are a lot less places for disgusting gunk to build up and easier clean up. Take much less time to switch heads, if you have to share them (or if the kids have to). They are slightly cheaper to replace, natural as it seems a lot less complicated design.
-Charger base is smaller, same bolt on design as brush head.
-Setting for tooth whitening. Wilder pulsing basically.
-Sleeker, smaller, more comfortable body.
I only moved from the E-series because I orignally bought it as a 2-for-1 special with a family member who eventually moved out and it only came with one base charger. An extra (replacement) one would have cost nearly $45 with shipping + replacement brush head for at least $13, might as well buy a new set at that point.
If you have a Sonicare already, it's probably most economical to stay with yours till it dies as none of the features are revolutionary. Still, I probably like the brush head redesign and resulting cleanliness/lack-of-gunk the best....more info
- More powerful than old E-series
I bought my first Sonicare toothbrush back in 2002, an original E-series, and I used it until it wouldn't recharge any more, which was about Christmas 2008. After using a manual toothbrush a few weeks, I decided I simply had to get another Sonicare.
I upgraded to the R710, and I couldn't be happier. The lithium batteries make it smaller, lighter, easier to handle, and just more... toothbrush-like. The E-series always was a handful. Plus, Sonicare has apparently improved their ultrasonic technology over the last 6 years... the R710 is significantly more powerful than my old one was. The only downside I've found is that, since the R710 has 2 cleaning modes (whereas my old model had only one), turning the unit off in mid-cycle requires pressing the button twice instead of just once. The first press switches modes, and the second press finally turns it off....more info
- Spare your change!
The brush head pops out of the shaft after a few weeks, making it impossible to brush without the thing disintegrating in the middle of a brush cycle. It can also be downright dangerous if the brush head flies into your mouth at high speed, as has happened with me. Sadly, Sonicare's customer service is dreadful. They will replace this with another unit, which does the same thing. They will not ship you any other model, even if you volunteer to pay more for an upgrade. ...more info
- Whiter I am!
I got this toothbrush as a Christmas gift and love it! It is my first sonic brush - but I will never go back to hand brushing again! My teeth were noticably whiter after only a week (I bleach with high priced bleaching kits as well - this is much easier with noticable improvement along the hard to bleach gum line) I am not sure about the maintanance cost of new heads or the life on the battery - but what ever the cost the whiter teeth made it worth it for me already! (my 7 year old has used it a time or two as well and I can see a difference in her teeth already.)...more info
- Better to heed the warning
The brush head on the Phillip R710 Healthy White vibrates off as you are using it. I got hit in the eye with it. I put it back on and it again came flying off again. I thought it almost went down my sink drain.
Then I called Phillips Sonicare and they told me that this has never happened before. I told them it is not true because I read on the Amazon review boards that it happened to two other people. They proceeded to tell me they have nothing to do with Amazon. Then they said they would send me another one. I told them I would rather have another model. I had previosly owned the E series model for several years. It was a good model. They told me they couldn't send me a different model. I told them
I was very unhappy and was a customer for many years. They didn't care. Then they made sure I couldn't return the used brush with the replacement brush, they were sending me. They made me wait for over one month to receive my new brush.
During the waiting period for my replacement brush, I received an email from their customer service division requeting to know how their product and service was. I reported a negative critique. I told them I was waiting for my replacemenet brush for almost a month. Still no one from their customer service division called to apologize to me.
Next time, I will take the Amazon negative reviews a little more seriously. I was just so excited about the newer technology and wanted to try it. As the old saying goes, if it is not broke, don't fix it....more info
- Consider the R732 Instead
The R723 has two brush heads, cord storage in the base, a sensitive setting, and a travel case. The R710 is being sent by Sonicare for warranty replacement even though it is not as good as the defective item it is supposed to replace. They will not honor the warranty and ship a comparable item. ...more info

- Best Toothbrush on the market
My first sonicare toothbrush finally died after 10+ years (would no longer hold a charge) So, I tried a couple of the competitors and did not have that same superior clean feeling. I decided to go back to a trusted friend and purchased a new design...I have not been happier since 10 years ago when I first tried a sonicare brush..they have saved me many cavities and gum problems as I gen only visit the dentist every couple of years.. WHICH is a BIG NO NO...however I do believe the brushing 3 times a day with this and listerine has helped. ...more info
